Opportunity to help a Justice Volunteer this Summer

Marilyn Clayton writes “I have been communicating with a retired UU lay minister in California for the past several weeks. Rick Childs contacted UUFR because he wants to spend the summer helping NC with reproductive justice and other urgent issues. He has done this before in Idaho, Nevada, and Mississippi. He selected NC this year because it’s such an important swing state. My main ask is for you to consider whether or not you have space to house Rick from mid-June to August, or any part of that time. Now I’ll let Rick introduce himself HERE.”

FROM RICK CHILDS:

I’m planning on coming to Raleigh this summer to help the Reproductive/Abortion Rights cause as a volunteer, doing special projects and offering other help for Planned Parenthood, the Carolina Abortion Fund, and perhaps other similar orgs.  I’ll be needing housing in Raleigh (close to downtown if possible)…and so this request to anyone who might have some way of helping me out, from mid-June to around Labor Day — and who’d feel comfortable having me join you or house sit, or knows of some other possibility. I can afford a small rent. For the past dozen years, I’ve traveled to different Red and Purple states, working with Planned Parenthood and NARAL affiliates (and clinics) doing a variety of special projects, such as creating “Everything You Need to Know About Getting an Abortion in _____” websites [see last year’s in Idaho at https://idahoabortioninformation.org/ and organizing Pro-Choice clergy to counsel women from conservative religious backgrounds, so they can feel spiritually positive having an abortion. I’m a very responsible, clean, and positive senior citizen. You can learn about me by visiting our UU website http://mendouu.mcn.org/ and reading my bio and/or spiritual essays if you’d like. I am happy to offer references from people I’ve stayed with in the past. If you have any space available (nothing fancy needed!) for me for this summer – or any lead for another place – I’d be most grateful hearing from you. My email is rick@mcn.org and my phone is 707-964-1722. Huge thanks for any help or leads you can offer!
