This is an exciting and important opportunity to assist our congregation to learn about and give feedback on a new, expanded statement of UU Principles. UUFR has been a member of the UUA since it became a Fellowship. The UUA assists congregations in their vital ministries, supports and trains leaders both lay and professional, fosters lifelong faith formation and spiritual development, heals historic injustices, supports and encourages the creation of new Unitarian Universalist communities, and advances our Unitarian Universalist values in the world. Starting in 2021, the UUA began revising the current Principles and Purposes outlined in its Bylaws. The last time the UUA Bylaws were substantially revised was in 1985. Since 2009, congregations and delegates to the UUA have been discussing amendments to the Principles. In June 2020, the UUA Board established an Article II Study Commission to consider possible amendments to this Bylaws. After several years of discussion and a thousand comments, all UU congregations have before them now a final proposal for a new Article II, which offers new statements of the faith’s Principles, Purposes and Sources. This proposal will be voted on by UU congregations at the General Assembly in June, 2024. This is a link to proposal. The purpose of this task force is to assist the congregation to understand the role of the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Bylaws revisions proposed in Article II. It is a short term commitment, February – July 2024 with periodic meetings and listening sessions. Contact uufr-uua@uufr.org for more information.
